Cafe Olé, 96 Mitcham Road

Originally called Dawson’s Terrace, 90 – 96 Mitcham Road was built about 1899.

In 1902 No. 96 was a draper’s shop run by Frank Street. No. 94 was a tobacconist’s, No. 92 Mrs Winifred William’s dairy and No. 90 George Hovey’s bootmaking business.

By 1909 No. 96 was a beer, wine and spirit shop owned by Usher’s Wiltshire Brewery. The manager, Ernest Channell, lived above the shop with his family. Galleon Wine Co. Ltd. ran it by 1972 when its neighbours were Superior Cleaners, Broadway Electronics Radio Components and John Barnes Modern Tailors Ltd.
